When it comes to identifying the signs of ageing, dark circles under the eyes are a telltale sign for both men and women. Dark circles can look blue, purple, or even dark brown (depending on your skin colour), and they usually appear thanks to constricted blood vessels in this area, along with thinning of the skin around your eyes. Dark circles can be triggered by several factors such as genetics, stress, lack of sleep, uneven skin, allergies, excessive alcohol consumption and even hyperpigmentation. Whilst they’re not harmful to your health, they can lead to lackluster eyes making you look tired which is not ideal. While some dark circles can’t be eliminated altogether, their appearance can be addressed with regular dark circle treatments and products such as eye serums, creams, collagen induction (skin-needling) and regular facials with massage. In particular, you should look out for special ingredients which can target the area. Retinol encourages cell renewal to re-texturise and smooth skin (eliminating shadows in the process), encourages collagen production to plump the delicate eye area and restores elasticity. Caffeine encourages circulation for a brighter complexion. In addition, Hyaluronic Acid hydrates and Vitamin C in combination with light reflecting minerals and algae extracts inhibits melanogenesis to assist with lightening discolouration and add radiance to the area by diffusing light and reflecting away from dark circles and hollowness.
