All the benefits of LED Light Therapy

Light Therapy is as old as the sun. Humans have long benefited from the exposure of the sun's full light spectrum. However, due to the damaging ultraviolet rays, exposure to the sun should be limited and completely avoided between 10am-3pm. Refer to previous posts on sunscreen and sun safety.

A daily dose of 5-15 minute exposure sunlight before 10 am is the best way to still reap the benefits the sun has to offer. There is a direct correlation between sun exposure and our mood; sunlight increases the levels of serotonin in the brain, which is associated with improved mood. Not surprisingly, serotonin levels are highest in the summer.
The sun is also a great way to get our daily intake of Vitamin D, a crucial nutrient needed by our bones, blood cells, and immune system.

Modern Light Therapy uses specific wavelengths to stimulate cell activity deep within the skin for a myriad of benefits.

Light Therapy, also referred to as Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) uses Light emitting diodes at specific wavelengths and dosages for skin rejuvenation, inflammation and acne.

Red light uses wavelengths at 633nm to stimulate cellular activity beneath the skin's surface. As cellular activity increases, cells become more permeable and responsive to exogenous factors. Blood flow increases, leading to greater tissue oxygenation and detoxification. An increase in production of collagen and elastin occurs as well as increased cell renewal and regeneration. Skin appears clearer with less fine lines, is plumped up and hydrated. Results are instantaneous!

Red is combined with Blue Light to combat mild to moderate acne vulgaris and cystic acne.

Blue light-emitting diodes use 415nm wavelengths to penetrate the skin superficially to target one of the key bacteria responsible in acne vulgaris. C.acnes bacteria produces natural chemicals called porphyrins, which are targeted by the blue light to cause an oxygen free radical that destroys the bacteria.

Clinical trials undertaken for the treatment of mild to moderate acne saw a 73% reduction in the condition 8 weeks post completion of treatment course with light only.

Please note that these results used a combination of blue and red light therapy sessions scheduled 48-72 hours apart over a 4 week treatment plan.

We understand this treatment plan isn't always an option for clients and alternative effective treatments are discussed at your initial consultation.

Sometimes referred to as Clinical White Light; Near-Infrared Light Therapy utilises wavelengths of 830nm to stimulate cells deep below skin tissue to soften fine lines, improve skin tone, texture and elasticity.

The benefits of near-infrared wavelength of 830 nm are many, have been extensively reported in literature for almost 3 decades and extend far beyond aesthetic purposes.

Near-infrared light therapy is used to treat inflammatory skin conditions including eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and rosacea.
It is the choice of light therapy used post-laser, skin needling and certain peels due to its superb abilities to heal the skin and reduce inflammation. It can maximise the results of any procedure you choose to invest in by ensuring your skin is in optimal condition prior to surgery by creating healthier tissue that heals efficiently (pre/post-operative treatments available and encouraged). It is also FDA cleared for temporary relief of minor muscle and joint pain, arthritis, and muscle spasm; relieving stiffness; promoting the relaxation of muscle tissue and temporarily increasing local blood circulation where applied.

With so many benefits, it was super important that an LED component be incorporated in ALL of our treatments.

Your skin will thank you for it.
