Vitamin C 🍊

Renowned for its potent antioxidant properties, Vitamin C has long been the gold standard in cosmetic ingredients.

Its ability to neutralise free radicals and its role in collagen synthesis has frequently been researched and documented. It is also known to improve pigmentation and boost UV protection when used under sunscreen (not instead of).

L-Ascorbic Acid (LAA) is the most used and researched vitamin C when it comes to benefits for the skin.

This water-soluble ingredient is highly unstable and it's important to note that not all vitamin C products are created equally. The best formulations are a combination of LAA with Ferulic acid, Vitamin E, Glutathione, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate- an oil-soluble form of Vitamin C- for maximum stability and efficacy.

The benefits of Vitamin C extend beyond topical use. Our bodies cannot produce vitamin C naturally so we must ingest it. My advice would be to look for a supplement that is a direct source of food for maximum bioavailability; berries, camu camu, maqui, acerola, oranges. @edenhealthfoods WILD C is my first choice for my family and I. I know the product was out of stock for a long time but they have recently made a fresh batch so stock up while you can.

Important tips on Vitamin C in skincare:
-Use as part of your AM routine after cleansing, using a vitamin C serum before sunscreen has been shown to be more effective at neutralising free radicals then just using sunscreen alone.
-Use within 1-2 months of opening
-If the colour of your serum has darkened or changed, assume it has oxidised and discontinue use
-If you are blemish-prone, please make sure you speak to a therapist to determine if a Vitamin C serum is right for you. Rest assured, there are great alternative antioxidant serums.

My top recommendations and their breadowns are:
